Schuman 2.0 Ambassadors Training

Civil Society - Trainings
Date: Saturday, 14 December 2019 10:00 - Sunday, 15 December 2019 13:00

Venue: Sleep Well Hostel, Rue du Damier 23, 1000 Brussels

The statesman Robert Schuman, French foreign minister between 1948 and 1952, is regarded as one of the founding fathers of European unity. In cooperation with Jean Monnet he drew up the Schuman Declaration, which he published on 9 May 1950, the date now regarded as the birth of the European Communities. The Declaration proposed the creation of a single authority to control the production of Steel and Coal in France and West Germany, opening it also to other European countries. This declaration was inspired by federalist principles. It was aiming to lead, in the long run, to a European Federation.

The Schuman 2.0 Ambassadors’ training takes place in frame of the “Schuman 2.0” project, co-funded by the Europe for Citizens Programme of the European Union, which is aimed to contribute to citizens' understanding of the EU, its’ history and diversity and to raise awareness of remembrance, common history and values and the aim of the EU.

The Training will help young activists from civil society organisations to become key actors in the events the project, able to facilitate discussions with students and citizens, to raise awareness of one of the founding moments of the European Integration project and to better prepare citizens in order to undertake active role in the ongoing debate on the future of Europe.

The young Ambassadors will learn how to co-organise local events, how to involve participants from different backgrounds and how to interact with different nationalities.

The event will run on two days starting on Saturday 14th of December morning and ending on Sunday 15th of December 13:00 with an option to visit the House of European History after the training end.

·    Saturday will be dedicated to group cohesion and to the historical moment that inspires European unity from the Schuman declaration in 1950 forward on. In the second part of the day the focus will be put on the Schuman 2.0 project and its' activities and objectives and gaining facilitation skills.

·      Sunday sessions will focus on improving skills in organization of Intercultural meetings and events in view to implement the local activities in the frame of the Schuman 2.0 project. Several workshops and practical sessions will permit the Ambassadors to experience facilitation methodologies. Participants will exercise their practical skills acquired during the training, shape the local events in small groups and present the outcomes to the plenary.
