Ukrainian week - 29 February - 2 March

hp.EU Ukraine.flags .12.02.11 "Ukraine Week", a three day high-level conference on capacity-building for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, that will take place in the premises of the European Parliament on 29 February – 2 March.

The draft programme of the event is available HERE, and an updated version will be circulated closer to the event.

As you might know, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed last July by President Martin Schulz and Volodymyr Groysman, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, in line with our commitment to establish a long term and constructive partnership between the two assemblies. Accordingly, former EP President Pat Cox prepared a report and a roadmap on capacity-building for the Verkhovna Rada, in the framework of a Needs Assessment Mission. On the basis of this report, I have been tasked to develop a specific EP programme for capacity-building activities for the Verkhovna Rada (with the participation of all of you who might be interested).

"Ukraine Week" will thus launch, on the basis of the recommendations contained in the roadmap, this capacity-building programme, and form the basis of a first round of high-level discussions in identified areas. Side events and other meetings will also be organised to fully benefit from the unprecedented attendance at "Ukraine week". Indeed, more than 50 Ukrainian parliamentarians, including the entire leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, have been invited to attend, as well as the Speakers of EU National Parliaments, representatives from other EU institutions, international organisations and civil society, with a view to sharing their experience on good parliamentary practices.
