THE ERA OF FINANCIAL INTERCONNECTEDNESS: HOW CAN ASIA STRENGTHEN FINANCIAL RESILIENCE?

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Thursday, 01 March 2018 11:00 - 13:00

Venue: BRUEGEL  |  City: Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Belgium

On 1 March we are holding a small closed-door workshop: “The era of financial interconnectedness: how can Asia strengthen financial resilience?” At this event Yasuyuki Sawada, Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank, will present the main findings of the theme chapter from the 2017 Asian Economic Integration Report.

Although Asia has taken great strides in improving its financial resilience in the two decades since the Asian Financial Crisis, significant structural weaknesses remain and new challenges have emerged. The event will discuss these existing and new financial vulnerabilities and challenges, identifying policy gaps and offering suggestions on what can be done. The emphasis will be in particular on policy options where increased regional cooperation can safeguard financial stability and promote financial resilience.

This is an invitation-only event for Bruegel’s members and a small number of experts.
