A Digital Presidency. Takeaways from Estonia's programme for a Digital Europe

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Tuesday, 14 November 2017 09:30 - 17:00

Venue: Arsenal  |  City: Etterbeek, Belgium

Estonia is synonymous with transparent and efficient e-services - and the Estonian European Union Presidency aims to accelerate the adoption of a digital Europe. It is leading negotiations on a series of important digital issues and hosting an extensive range of digital events, culminating in this high level event in Brussels.

This full-day event will explore ways in which technology and new digital business innovations impact the EU economy. These trends affect a number of industry sectors, including finance, manufacturing, transport, energy and healthcare. In all these sectors, the impact of digital technologies is going to become increasingly pervasive, leading to a radical change in business models, an increased “servicification”, a reshuffling of the job market and, to various extents, the emergence of more distributed, collaborative schemes.

The Estonian Presidency, representing one of Europe’s acclaimed digital champions, is promoting a fruitful debate on how emerging, disruptive technology trends can improve the effectiveness of public institutions and the well-being of EU citizens.

This event will bring together around 250-350 participants, including practitioners, academics, national and European policy makers, corporates and NGOs from Brussels and beyond. The Estonian Prime Minister Jüri Ratas and Commissioner Andrus Ansip are scheduled to participate, alongside an array of keynote speakers, with up to 15 panels on key topics, such as:
