ECIPE Seminar: Privacy with Chinese Characteristics?

Industry, Enterprise and Single Market
Date: Friday, 26 October 2018 10:00 - 11:30

Venue: ECIPE Office, Avenue des Arts 40, 6th floor, 1040 Brussels  |  City: Bruxelles

Since China's Cybersecurity Law took effect on 1 June 2017, the Chinese authorities have issued several guidelines to implement the law and strengthen protection of personal information and cybersecurity. Some new guidelines bear close resemblances to Europe's GDPR and will formalise and strengthen the legal requirements necessary to use or transfer data in China. Others grant more power to Chinese authorities to inspect companies' network or review products in use.

  • What will the new requirements mean for doing business with China?

  • What are the similarities and differences with GDPR?

  • Will the EU regulations and businesses be deemed as adequate and compliant? What are the risks and uncertainties?

Please join us for a discussion on what will the Chinese privacy reforms entail for the world?

Speaker:

Ms. Yan Luo is an Of Counsel with Covington & Burling LLP's Beijing office, with extensive experience in trade, cybersecurity and antitrust law in Europe, the US and China. She was recently named "Top 40 under 40" by Global Data Review.

Additionnal speakers will be added.
