3rd meeting: Artificial Intelligence: Ethics, governance and policy challenges Task Force

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Monday, 03 September 2018 10:00 - 17:00

Venue: See description  |  City: Brussels

Artificial intelligence has finally reached its “hype” phase, with countless experts, real and self-proclaimed gurus, and also generalist newspapers, blogs, magazines becoming more and more attentive to its breath-taking development.

However, the current debate too often falls short of addressing concrete policy challenges: sometimes, the discussion appears trapped into extreme cases such as the “trolley problem” for self-driving cars; or the possibility that artificial general intelligence surpasses human intelligence. This often leads to a rather dystopian view of AI as an existential risk for humanity, and also as an unprecedented job-killer. At the same time, it leaves important ethical, governance and policy questions unaddressed.

This third meeting of the Task Force will look at the global state of AI, applications of AI in biorobotics, transparency and democratic use of AI as well as a human-centric agenda for AI.

IMPORTANT:

Participation in this event is strictly reserved to members of the “Artificial Intelligence” Task Force, if you are not part of this group unfortunately you can’t participate at this stage.

VENUE: Will be announced soon here.
