Opening lecture: Dublin and Solidarity. Unblocking the poisoned debate?

Home affairs, Migration and Integration
Date: Monday, 02 July 2018 17:00 - 18:30

Venue: Auditorium Pierre Drion  |  City: Brussel

The opening lecture of the 18th edition of the Odysseus Summer School will be dedicated to the burning issues of solidarity and asylum. The title evokes the image of a 'poisoned debate', used by French President Emmanuel Macron to describe the profound divisions among the Member States regarding relocation and the Dublin reform.

The event will take place just a few days after the European Council meeting of 28-29 June, where EU leaders will seek a common position on the reform of Dublin.

The opening lecture will be given by Prof. Francesco MAIANI (Université de Lausanne) followed by a panel of experts, including:

Henrik NIELSEN, Head of Asylum Unit, European Commission

Sophie MAGENNIS, Regional Representative for EU Affairs UNHCR Brussels

The event will be free and open to the public. As places are limited, registration is required for those who are not registered as students of the Odysseus Summer School.
