The Injustice of Marital Captivity

Civil Society
Date: Monday, 25 June 2018 15:00 - 18:30

Venue: European Parliament, Brussels, Room A5E.2  |  City: Brussel, Belgium

ALDE (Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe in the European Parliament) and Femmes for Freedom (FFF) join forces and organize a hearing on “The Injustice of Marital Captivity” with a view to raising awareness of the phenomenon and discussing possible solutions at European level.

The hearing brings together a broad audience of academics, experts, politicians  and EU stakeholders to discuss this issue that puts women who are divorced for civil law but remain trapped in a religious marriage in a position of discrimination and oppression. These women lack independence and are hampered in their participation in society.
