Ambassador Series: Republic of Albania

Institutional and Political Issues
Date: Wednesday, 13 March 2019 19:00 - 21:00

Venue: Mission of Albania to the EU

Albania's application to become a member of the European Union was submitted in 2009. In October 2012, the European Commission recommended that Albania be granted EU candidate status, subject to completion of measures in certain areas and in June 2014, the European Council granted Albania the status of ‘candidate country’. In the following years, Albania’s commitment to the reform agenda was recognized and the Council set out a path towards opening accession negotiations.

Albania hopes to open accession talks with the EU in June of this year, but has the country made significant progress on judicial reform and the fight against corruption and organized crime for negotiations to begin?

YPFP Brussels is happy to invite you to the Mission of the Republic of Albania to the EU for a special conversation with Ambassador Suela Janina to discuss Albania’s made efforts in joining the European Union, the country’s role in the Balkan region as well as its priorities in the relationship it seeks with its neighboring countries.
