Standing Our Ground - United against the Backlash

Civil Society
Date: Tuesday, 26 February 2019 13:00 - 15:00

Venue: European Parliament, PHS building, Room 1C51

The questioning of reproductive health and rights in several countries across the European Union, the defunding of academic gender studies in Hungary, movements against marriage equality, such as the French Manif pour Tous, a stagnating development in regards to the Gender Equality Index - it seems as if the regression of equality is gaining momentum faster than ever before. How should we react to this build-up of setbacks? With frustration? Far from it: We will defend our rights!

In order to fight the backlash it is necessary to shed light on the network of far-right forces and neo-conservative movements. However, merely pointing out the continued attacks on human rights is not enough anymore. Those fighting for a progressive Europe need to unite.

We have to stand up for human rights, whether it’s women’s or LGBTI rights. We are fighting for one common goal - a Europe united in equality and solidarity.

With an increasing amount of actors who are trying to push and normalize a retrogressive agenda we need to #StandOurGround #FightTheBacklash
