Raymond Georis Debate: Philanthropy and Culture for Europe’s future

As part of the European year of cultural heritage, the New European Agenda for Culture was published in May 2018 accompanied by the European Commission Proposal for Regulation on the Creative Europe programme 2021-2017.

The debate will put the spotlight on the power of culture and cultural diversity for social cohesion and wellbeing, supporting jobs and growth and strengthening international cultural relations, and the role and value philanthropy can bring in this space.

Speakers:

Tere Badia, Secretary General, Culture Action Europe

Tere Badia holds a degree in Art History from the Universitat de Barcelona and a MA in Information and Knowledge Society by the IN3 (Internet interdisciplinary Institute) of the UOC. She is dedicated to cultural research and production in various formats. She has carried out several studies on cultural policies, networks and R+D+i for visual arts. Tere has curated exhibitions and projects of contemporary art. She has been professionally linked to the Interarts Observatory in the 90’s, the communication and multimedia agency Goetzinger&Komplizen (Karlsruhe). Tere coordinated the platform DISONANCIAS in Catalonia for the promotion of the relations between artists and research departments of companies and organizations, as well as the network of visual arts production spaces of Catalonia xarxaprod. Until January 2018, Tere Badia was director of Hangar – centre for artistic production and research in Barcelona.

André Wilkens, incoming Director, European Cultural Foundation

Andre Wilkens is the incoming director of the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam. Andre is the co-founder and managing director of the Initiative Offene Gesellschaft, a German citizens platform advocating for an open society, and board chair of Tactical Tech. Before Andre has worked for Stiftung Mercator, UNHCR, Open Society Foundations and the European Union. He is a successful author, including “Der diskrete Charme der Bürokratie” and “Analog ist das neue Bio”.

Raymond Georis

Raymond Georis has been a champion of philanthropy for several decades. On 9th November 1989, under his leadership, seven European foundations joined together to form the EFC. 29 years later, the annual event in his name pays tribute to the vision of Mr Georis, who dedicated, and continues to dedicate, his career to the European project and the goal of building long-lasting infrastructures for cooperation within the European philanthropic and civil society communities. #EUevents
