Health
Date: Wednesday, 21 November 2018 17:30 - 19:00

Venue: Io Sono Wine Bar (Rue du Trône 62, 1050 Bruxelles)

Join us for the meeting of the City-Labs Talk Series 'Diabetes care in the digital age: accessing innovation & fostering self-care'

Wednesday, 21 November 2018 from 17.30 to 19.00

at Io Sono Wine Bar (Rue du Trône 62, 1050 Bruxelles)

The purpose of this informal debate is to offer a dynamic discussion among key stakeholders and policymakers on the impact of digital solutions in improving diabetes care, promoting access to these technologies and enhancing quality of care.

Diabetes is one of the greater healthcare challenges of our times affecting over 60 million Europeans (about 10.3% of men and 9.6% of women aged 25 years and over). Diabetes prevalence is increasing among all ages across Europe, killing about 3.4 million people annually. Good management of this condition can save lives, prevent its complications and ultimately hold down healthcare costs. Patients have been provided with several digital solutions which help them unlock the power to control blood glucose levels, plan nutrition, keep in tune with taking medication, work out, and keep track of medical visits etc. Digital technologies have the potential to improve self-care and patient outcomes. Access to digital tools, like mobile apps and wearable solutions, rely on patients’ literacy and acceptance as well as appropriate reimbursement scheme.
